Biodiversity & Habitat Preservation
Sprawl development is a primary threat to New Jersey's plants and animals. As we consume their habitats with development, we make it increasingly difficult for them to eke out a living. And this habitat destruction and subsequent biodiversity loss doesn't just harm the plants and animals - it hurts us humans, too. There are numerous economic, environmental, public health, and esthetic benefits associated with habitat and biodiversity preservation. Plant and animal biodiversity supports farmers' crops. Wetland habitats prevent flooding, saving money and lives. Forests clean pollutants out of the air we breathe. New Jersey's open spaces provide millions of tourist dollars to the state's economy every year.
